Tax Inclusion and Price Structure

Unlike standard retail models, our all-inclusive pricing accounts for both direct cannabis taxes and the associated federal, state, and payroll obligations required to operate legally in California. Our pricing is calculated using a two-tier tax structure, detailed below:
Tier 1: Direct Cannabis Taxes (44.5% of Base Price)
Levied directly on the base price of the product, the total direct cannabis tax inclusion is 44.5%, allocated as follows:
- Excise Tax (15%): Levied on all legal cannabis transactions, this tax is paid from retailers to distributors. It funds state initiatives like environmental cleanup and drug prevention programs.
- City, State, and District Tax (10.5%): These taxes are added at the point of sale, supporting the state’s general fund and local efforts in transportation, social services, and public safety. This is comprised of a 9.5% City & State Tax and a 1% District Tax.
- Cannabis Business Tax (19%): Imposed at the local government level, this tax is charged at sale on top of the product’s base price, with revenues directed toward local municipal services.
Tier 2: Federal and State Income & Payroll Taxes (46.88% of Post-Cannabis Tax Subtotal)
To maintain absolute financial transparency regarding the true cost of operations and compliance, a secondary layer of taxes is factored into our final pricing. These taxes are calculated on 100% of the amount that remains after the 44.5% cannabis-related taxes (Tier 1) have been applied to the base price. This secondary tier includes:
- Federal Income Tax (32.0%): Applied to the post-cannabis tax subtotal.
- California State Income Tax (10.37%): Applied to the post-cannabis tax subtotal.
- Social Security, Medicare, and Additional Medicare Tax (3.31%): Applied to the post-cannabis tax subtotal to account for federal payroll obligations.
- California State Disability Insurance (SDI) (1.20%): Applied to the post-cannabis tax subtotal to cover state-mandated disability contributions.
Pricing Clarity
Because the Tier 2 taxes are calculated on the already-taxed subtotal, the final listed price on Obtain High represents the complete, all-inclusive cost of the product, operations, and regulatory compliance. There are no additional fees, taxes, or surprises at checkout.
